I Will Do It For You, 2024
Over 20 years ago after arriving to the United States my parents
fractured into two timelines, leaving me as the sole connector.
Within “I Will Do it For You” the imperative role of placation in
assimilation is traversed. Placation is to soothe and mollify
by concessions, to be an appeaser, yet being one does not allow for
such support. Through performing as a placater, I
explore its embodiment which I govern as a
daughter, source of hope and new generation. Informed by archival and collective imagery, I am forced to a mirror and this mental fractal unlocks the depths of my existence within my family’s physical and
emotional praxis.
