Making Marylin Monroe , 2025

*a three channel video performance*

[Body as Mannequin]

In “Body as Mannequin”, I work to reconfigure a portrait of Marylin Monroe by Eve Arnold, from personal and cultural memory. Within the white clinical landscape, I fall in and out of footing.

[White Canvassing]
In “White Canvassing” I alter the original image by digitally washing Marylin Monroe in a brown-skin tone sourced from my skin color. Layer by layer I alter Marilyn Monroe’s digital surface through structures of opacity, blending modes, layers and duplication.

[Gestalt Theory]
In “Gestalt Theory” my categorization of visual information for personal gain is explicated. I question what it means to self-impose the motivation of building an individual and if Marilyn’s reduction into a two-dimensional surface employs this agency and power dynamic.
